Beach Koopas are course elements that originated in Super Mario World.
Behavior[]
Beach Koopas appear when a Koopa Troopa is stomped in the Super Mario World or Super Mario 3D World Game Styles or when a Koopa Troopa Car breaks with one inside.
They start out sliding, retaining their color (in Koopa Troopa Cars, they are green) where they can be defeated by just walking into them. They get up after a little bit and start walking normal. When they reach an empty Koopa Shell, they will jump into it, even if it changes their color and/or size.
In the Super Mario World Style, they continue walking exactly like they did before. Green-shoed Beach Koopas will walk off of edges while Red-shoed ones won't.
In the Super Mario 3D World Style however, Beach Koopas mostly behave differently than normal Koopa Troopas or Koopa Troopa Cars. If a player or an empty Koopa Shell isn't nearby, then the Beach Koopa will walk the same way a normal Koopa Troopa would. Green-shoed ones will walk of edges and Red-shoed ones won't.
If a player is nearby but not an empty Koopa Shell, Super Mario 3D World Beach Koopas chase the player. If the player gets far enough away, it'll express sadness before returning to its normal state. If an empty Koopa Shell is nearby, the Beach Koopa will start running towards the shell, even if a player is closer. If it can't reach the shell in time, the shell is moved to far away from it or destroyed, the Beach Koopa will express sadness for a bit.
Red-shoed Beach Koopas that are trying to get into an empty Koopa Shell or are chasing a player will still walk off of edges unlike their standard behavior.
